A little question though - what's the story behind this scene? I know it's GW that ordered it, but how would an army of skeletons clad in Old World armour get to Lustria? A ship, I understand. Three - okay, that's quite some skeletons you can pack in there. But to draw a Slann out into an open battle means there has to be quite a horde of those skellies and shipping them over to Lustria from a province so deep in the continent would be kinda problematic even for Carsteins.
Oh well, I've seen weirder things happen in WFB fluff already. Any reason is good to pit two armies against each other..!
I was working for Fantasy Flight Games on this illustration. They bought the license from GW so I wasn't actually working with GW on this, but GW does have to give approvals. The art director asked me to paint this scene, so that is why I did it. There was no backstory given to me, only what they wanted in the scene. I hope that helps.
Oh, right, FFG. Well, however unlikely the story behind that conflict would be, you did some marvelous job on that artwork. Especially love the Slann with his cold, calm expression. Huge fan of your work, especially Warhammer-related.
Nothing can beat the Slaan, most awesome mages of the world. Combine him with hundreds of cold-blooded lizard warriors, temple guard, huge kroxigors, lethal skinks and dinosaurs they owe many other armies.
